Too many people are never taught how to manage their money, time or habits, and plenty of companies profit from that gap.
Proctre exists to close that gap. The name blends protect and proctor: someone who watches over you.
Proctre believes in practical stewardship: teaching people to wisely manage God’s gifts of money, time, talents and the people entrusted to our care.
The origin story (the fun version)
A counter-agency to Spectre
The name started as a joke. After a few James Bond movies, some friends and I made a short film, and while dreaming up a good-guy agency to fight Spectre, I coined the name Proctre.
Spectre is the fictional criminal organization in the Bond films: a global network of spies and criminals that operates in the shadows, exploiting governments, companies and individuals for profit and power.
Then it hit me: that’s… just the financial services industry. Hidden fees, hidden agendas, hidden control and legalese that take advantage of people for someone else’s gain. Confusing statements, products nobody explains, advice gatekept behind account minimums, and growing complexity that puts long-term investing out of reach for everyday people.
So the joke became the name. If Spectre is the villain preying on the unaware, I wanted the counter-agency: the good guys, working quietly on your behalf instead of against you. I started playing with the word, and protect was sitting right there the whole time. Blend in proctor, a person who watches over and guards, keep the -tre from Spectre as a wink to where it came from, and you land on Proctre. Two real words, one fake villain organization, and a pun that has held up a lot longer than I expected.
That’s the honest answer to “Why Proctre?” and it’s why the mission has always been framed as protection first: watching over people’s money, time and habits the way a proctor watches over a room. Quietly, attentively, on their side.
